# Layer 1: Tokenisation Infrastructure

{% hint style="info" %}
**What it is:** The Tokenisation Infrastructure Layer provides the foundational capabilities required to represent structured financial products on-chain.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/C8NUWHttf71Gfp5kNuis" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Primary function

> * Create a **standardised on-chain representation** of structured financial products.
> * Support **asset lifecycle operations** end-to-end.

### What it supports

> * **Issuance:** minting/creating tokenised instruments under defined terms.
> * **Transfers:** movement of ownership interests between parties.
> * **Redemptions:** lifecycle completion flows (e.g., maturity, exit, settlement).
> * **Institutional-aligned contract frameworks:** standardised structures designed to match institutional workflows.

### Key design properties

> * **Asset-agnostic:** works across multiple institutional asset types (e.g., funds, treasury instruments, private credit).
> * **Neutral middleware:** enables tokenisation without prescribing distribution, trading, or liquidity.

{% hint style="warning" %}

### What it does <mark style="color:red;">not</mark> do

* Does not assume a specific **liquidity venue**, **trading model**, or **access model**.
* Does not embed **distribution or end-user assumptions** into the core protocol.
  {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://bzl.gitbook.io/bzl-docs/architecture/core-layer/layer-1-tokenisation-infrastructure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
